Insha`Allah! ‘Īdul Adha is celebrated across Canada on Satirday, July 9th, 2022. It is celebrated to remember the spirit of the sacrifice of Hadhrat Ibrahim (as) (Prophet Abraham) for the sake of Allah. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:  "The first thing to be done on this day (first day of ‘Īdul Adha) is to pray; and after returning from the prayer we slaughter our sacrifices (in the name of Allah) and whoever does so, he acted according to our Sunnah (traditions)." ‘Īd is a day of much rejoicing and happiness. Muslims offer the special prayers in the morning and then enjoy the rest of the day with their friends and families. ‘Īd is celebrated for three days. ‘Īdul Adha marks the end of Hajj. In the Holy Qur’an Allah, the Almighty has told us that one of the purposes of creation of the sun and the moon is for determination of time: He causes the break of day; and He made the night for rest and the sun and the moon for reckoning time. That is the decree of the Mighty, the Wise. (Al-An`am, 6:97) Allah has also told us that the sun and moon run their course according to a fixed schedule: The sun and the moon run their courses according to a fixed reckoning. (Al-Rahman, 55:6) While solar calendars are quite accurate, lunar calendars differ due to various methods of calculations prevalent in various cultures and religions. Muslims around the world become very concerned about lunar calendars couple of times every year to determine the month of Ramadhan and ‘Īd. Sometimes instead of “moon sighting” the exercise becomes “moon fighting” for some Muslims.
