Who was the first Ahmadi in Canada?

In Canada, the first known Ahmadi to visit the country was in 1923, Mr. Karam Din.

Many more Ahmadi’s followed, many of whom came from Pakistan while facing persecution. In 1974 and again in 1984, there was a lot of persecution due to the Pakistan Government legislations, which resulted in a lot of Ahmadi’s coming to Canada. In 1966, the Community was officially registered in Canada as the “Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam (Ont) Inc.” The first missionary who was assigned to Canada was Maulana Syed Mansoor Bashir Sahib.

    What is Khalifat?

The term Caliphate or ‘Khalifat’ mean successorship, and the Caliph or ‘Khalifa’ is a successor to a Prophet of Allah whose goal is to carry to the completion tasks of reformation and moral training that were brought by the Prophet, continuing to nurture the community’s faith and practices for as long as Allah wishes.

The Caliph or ‘Khalifa’ is a Prophet’s spiritual heir, his vicegerent and subordinate. He derives his authority from his Master-Prophet and as such becomes the central authority for his followers.

  • terrorism

Ahmadi muslims denounce the usage of a sword or any other form of coercion as a method of propagation of the Islamic faith.

Contrary to the common views that historically Islam was spread by force, Ahmadis maintain that early Muslims DIDN’T take up the sword in order to spread their faith, but rather to preserve the right to practice ALL faiths.

  • ramadan

Ahmadi Muslims, like many others, observe a one month period of consecutive fasts during the spiritual time Ramadhan.

Fasting in Islam begins everywhere at the first appearance of dawn and ends with sunset. During this time muslims are expected to abstain from all food and drink COMPLETELY.
